Brahma Hora Navagraha (梵天火羅九曜)


大正新脩大藏經第 21 No. 1311 梵天火羅九曜

No. 1311

According to Zen master I-Sing (一行禪師), the 28 houses (二十八宿) take left turn in the sky. From each position of each house, we would know which house one has offended. From the first year of Wude (大唐武德元年) of Tang Dynasty starting from the year of Wuyin (戊寅) to a total of 257 years, this Brahma Hora Navagraha and hidden two stars are described here. One can refer to this star chart and decide. The fortune and troubles of a person’s life shall not be missed and this is pretty amazing.

First, the Rahula, the consumer (羅睺蝕神):

Om rahula asura raja yaksa masadunyana shanty kali svaha

Method of worship:

Rahula must be worshipped with joss paper in the northeast direction.

Age of interference: 1, 10, 19, 28, 37, 46, 55, 64, 73, 82, 91

Whoever interfere with Rahula shall be deemed bad. This star is normally invisible, it has many names: Rahu (羅睺), Master Ra (羅師), Yellow Banner (黃幡) or Fiery Sun (火陽). When Rahula enters a person’s life, he shall lose his job, seriously sick, facing loss of money, death, worries or quarrel. The king shall perform ritual to ward off Rahula. One should draw the shape of Rahula onto joss paper and worship this image and all shall be auspicious (If one’s fate belonged to the righteous one, then this year shall be auspicious, whatever he asks for shall be fulfilled).

Second, the Saturn (土宿星), the king is at 4 seasons, the mantra:
Om shanaiya svaha Namah
Also,
Om shanai sah scha tra pram hanarusaya pushati kali svaha
Also,
Om susukaraya tatva rava rava raro sri svaha
The Saturn is at southeast direction during spring, it is at southwest during summer, it is at northwest during autumn and it is at northeast during winter. One should use a plate of fruits as offering to Saturn during the summer. The formula is that the directions of Saturn are uncertain but the direction can be estimated as above.
The age of interference: 2, 11, 22, 19, 38, 47, 56, 65, 74, 83, 92.

The Saturn


When Saturn arrives this year, the circumference of Saturn is 90 miles which is as large as the Country Chu (楚國). This planet is the fiercest of all. When Saturn falls into ones star chart, then he would have serious illnesses and may serve jail terms. When Saturn appeared in the star chart of a king, he shall be seriously ill. If one does not wish to interfere with Saturn then it is best to offer Saturn with a plate of fruits during summer time together with some joss papers (本命元神錢). The shape of Saturn is as if a Brahman, it is wearing a cow head crown and holding a staff made of tin. It is best to draw the image of Saturn and worship it. One should wear yellow garment when worshipping Saturn. If one performs the ritual properly, then all troubles shall be gone and his luck and life span would also increase. If one belongs to fire type, then he would have many problems during this year. So much so that the men would not be suitable to be employed, and women would not be suitable to get married. The worse month is the lunar 3rd and 9th month and the day of metal (庚辛日).

The third is the North Star (The Mercury 水星 strongest during winter 3 months)
The mantra for Mercury:
Om kusita tadyatah rita yaya zhizhi miti svaha
Also,
Om Budhana  kitsa svamina jinuma svaha
Also heart mantra:
Om shudri sata svaha

The time for worship is during the middle of summer and it should be offered with oil towards the north.

The age of interference: 3, 12, 21, 30, 39, 48, 57, 66, 75, 84, 93 small luck.

When the year is ruled by Mercury, also known as North Star, Cunning Star (毚星) or Dripping Star (滴星), matters related to sadness, quarrel, thieves and thugs etc. Mercury has a circumference of 100 miles and belongs to the direction of 'Yanzhao' (燕趙). The spirit of Mercury looks like a lady wearing a crown of an ape and she is holding paper and a pen. The king should worship it during mid summer using oil. He should pray to Northern Dipper (北斗) to lessen the effects of Mercury. Counting this 12 Zodiacs, from the month one is born; the next Nakshaktras is counted as one day. Counting from the left until one's birthday; then one should know etc. When it crosses one's fate (人命屬), then no matters can be accomplished: a man would lose his job and a lady would lost her husband. Month to avoid: 4th Month and day of fire (丙戌日).

The fearless subjugator Vajrakilaya,

Vajra phurpa tathagatah,

You are all powerful, strong, fearless and unchangeable,

Irresistible, cannot be destroyed, always burning, constant turning with joy;

You can remove all bad omens, kill all enemies and destroy all demons.

The fearless subjugator Vajrakilaya,

Vajra phurpa tathagatah,

You are the remover of all pains caused by sickness, burning away all bad karma,

You destroy all black magic without traces.

You have the unlimited power of thunders,

You are fast and fierce with unlimited compassion,

Your unlimited lights of wisdom flicker within;

Your vajra body fills the vast emptiness,

Your vajra speech roaring with laughter,

Your vajra mind materializing compassions,

Your right head is the Sambhogakaya vajra laugh,

Your left head is the Nirmanakaya vajra wrath,

Your middle head is the Dharmakaya vajra threat.

Vajra phurpa tathagatah,

You are:

Vajra mother the non dual character of emptiness and wisdom as if milk and water,

Vajra eyes constantly see through all secrets in this universe,

Vajra hairs erect upright as if rain of weapons to remove obstacles,

Vajra teeth white sharp to shred and chew on self clinging,

Vajra wings black blue in color to raise the wind of end of world,

Vajra hands swiftly accomplish the 6 major Prajna for the benefit of sentient beings,

Vajra feet for perform victorious dance at 4 directions stampeding demon kings,

Vajra voice sounding the truth until deva naga and 8 divisions come to seek refuge,

Vajra flames as if black winds blowing at enemies of 10 directions until uprooted.

The fearless subjugator Vajrakilaya,

Vajra phurpa tathagatah,

You are:

Phurpa, as if sharp drill, breaking and swing hatred until nothing left,

Phurpa, as if thunder strikes, drinking the 5 poisonous bloods until nothing left,

You constantly enter the hearts of sentient beings and always stay there,

This is the protector Kilaya, the natural sound of hum hum,

You are the provider of luck and happiness.

The fearless subjugator Vajrakilaya,

Vajra phurpa tathagatah,

You are:

The phurpa of original wisdom striking the non-dual Dharmadhatu,

The phurpa of secret bodhi striking in the joyous Dakini,

The phurpa of unlimited compassion striking the heart of all sentient beings,

The phurpa of casual work striking the demons that harms the living.

 

All of the tathagatahs united into Vajrakilaya tathagatah,

All of the dharma united into Vajrakilaya dharma,

All of the monks united into Vajrakilaya sangha.

 

Please empower me guru Vajrakilaya,

Please bestow success to me Satya-devata Vajrakilaya,

Please bestow phurpa accomplishment to me Dakini,

 

The victorious Maha Vajrakilaya,

He who travels to 10 directions without hindrances,

May all be auspicious according to his wishes!

 

Note:

Please treat “the praise of Vajrakilaya” as a sadhana. After reciting it, please store it at height and in place of clean: whoever recites this praise of Vajrakilaya with melody, then all his obstacles shall be swiftly removed and that his luck and wisdom shall be completed, all his career in this world and the next shall be as his wish.

A Prayer To Destroy Sickness And Epidemics


E Ma Ho

The victorious one who is playful between cycles of existence and enlightenment,

Who is casually staring at the external environment formed by 6 elements solemnly;

His achievement surpasses our ordinary thought into the Samanthbadra Dharmadatu,

This is the superb Great Perfection of Vajrayana;

Wish I could achieve enlightenment in the youthful vase body,

The Satya-devata and retinues congregated as if sea of clouds.

 

Hri

He who stays in the secure and solemn palace of Dharmadatu,

He is the representative of the body of Buddha of three times;

Showing the quality of his own heart as Dharmakaya,

I supplicate to all root gurus;

In the removal of all epidemics of this end of time,

I request that all type of pains and illnesses be removed,

Remove thoroughly all epidemics of end of time,

I request that all pains and illnesses be destroyed;

All sentient beings are seeking refuge to the great compassion ones who is holding white lotus;

Who is the sum of three gems, Guru Padmasambhava.

 

E Ma Ho

The one who removes ignorance, the Manjusri kumara body,

The one who subdues violent, the Vajrapani;

The ones who protects all from fears, the 5 Satya-devatas;

The one overcomes the vicious, the wrathful vajra etc;

I supplicate that all disasters be subsided, all troubles, worries and harms too,

The wind, bile, saliva, fluids, yellow eyes and unstable pulses;

Please stop these worries, harms, epidemics,

The blood pain, intestinal pain, swelling and pneumonia etc;

The invasion of Turuka soldiers at the border, all shall be reversed,

The troubles of non-human spirits all shall be reversed;

All hidden sorrow and joys shall subside,

Free from clinging of two sides together with demons of illnesses, all subsided into Dharmadatu.

My body, mouth and thoughts remain calm in this recitation,

All of sentient beings meditate in a sense of playfulness during the chanting of heavenly mantra.

 

Note

 

Use herbs, spices, 3 whites and 3 sweets to perform smoke offering while reciting the above supplication repeatedly to ward of illnesses of a place.

Avalokitesvara Divination (观音占卜法)


HRI

Myself transformed into Avalokitesvara, I am white with two arms holding a mirror.

In front I is the protectors of 4 sections: the White Tara, and all satyadevata that can give me accurate predictions. I pray for your judgement and advice.

 

Dependence arising mantra ( 缘起咒)

OM YE DHARMA HETU PRABHAWA HETUN TEKEN TATHAGATYO HAYA VADAT TEKEN TSAYO NIRODHA EVAM WANDI MAHASARMANAH SVAHA.

 

SO-SO

The 3 gems and 3 roots, the victorious and compassionate Avalokitesvara,

White Tara and dharma protectors, the miraculous local lords,

Now give me your divination and tell me the truth.

Give me an accurate and clear.

 

Recite mantra for 108x:

 

OM MANI PADMI HUM

 

1.OM The mountain of conch/海螺之山)

Everything is solid as mountain. The blessings of satya-devata enter the clouds. Your body is as if a white conch shell. This is the reading of Maha-brahmadeva. Whatever it is righteous shall be accomplished. Your family is good and auspicious. This is especially good for the ladies.

 

2.MA The intensity of the sun/璀璨日轮)

The light shines over the world. The body of satya-devata are hidden and unclear. Perform smoke offering and all shall be well. This is the reading for a king. Continue with good Dharma practices and all shall be well. There are some hindrances along the path. It shall be time consuming.

 

3.NI (The precious turquoise tree/璁玉宝树)

Turquoise trees produces fragrance, the fragrant fruits are all over the world. This is the reading for a Chakravartin. The help of your Dharma Protectors suddenly severed. You should perform smoke offerings for the 8 divisions and install Wind Horses. This is the reading for Dharma, whatever you practise shall yield.

 

4.PAD The vast of the sea/辽阔大海)

The vast and untamed sea is explosive in nature. Breaking noises of tidal waves breaking are pretty scary. This is the reading of Raksa, the Satya-devata shall protect you but the reading is only so-so. The protectors are smoked out by poisonous gaseous. You have offended the Satya-devata and that your protectors and kubera have left you. You must remove all toxic auras.

 

5MI Volcano eruptions/火山爆发)

The eruption of molten lava from volcanoes is surely devastating, the fortune of this life is sure to be burnt and destroyed to the ground. This is the reading of evil dragon king. Your Satya-devata is hurt and your fame and fortune are going down the drains. Your protectors are leaving you, so you should make offerings to the protectors and demons. Whatever in progress shall halt abruptly, so you should repent and it takes time to recover.

 

6HUM As strong as vajra/坚固金刚)

This is same as an unmovable vajra. The solid granite does not move. This is the reading for Songzain Gambo (松赞干布). During the beginning of the reign of The Dharma King Songzain Gambo in Tibet, his Satya-devata was hiding high above the clouds. If you are a middle aged man, the you shall be protected by 12 numbers of dharma protector.

Arya Sahasrāvarta Nāma Dhāraṇī


Arya Sahasrāvarta Nāma Dhāraṇī

千轉陀羅尼觀世音菩薩呪

 

Namo ratna trayaya. Namo aryalokitesvaraya. Bodhisattvaya. Mahasattvaya. Mahakarunikaya. Tadyatah: Saya saya saya visuni sayutali karakara mara mara jara jara yina yina sara pasara mopara nanimi bahgavati sahasravarta sarapa Buddha valokitesvaraya suru tara jalana siha bhagaye mona vishudarni sura sura parasura parasura sarapi Buddha ati saji svaha tara matatukara bhisvaha apapi sapa bapa dhara mapa bhutaniya svaha.

 

Sahasravarta mudra is same with Avalokitesvara same (only the feet is not the same): index, middle, ring and small fingers of both hands cross inwards forming a fist. The left thumb slightly bent in between the middle fingers. The right thumb relaxes and keeps straight. Both of the wrists are touching each other. Both feet stand in ‘T’ form. Meaning the right foot should be kept straight and the left foot bent and it should be outside. One should bend and cross his body towards his left. The mudra should be held in front of one’s left breast but it should not touch his body. The practitioner should smile with head facing right (this mudra is same with Avalokitesvara heart mudra only that the body and legs usage are different). During the 15th day of each month, one should wash himself and enter a clean room. He should make the mudra and recites mantra as all heavy sins shall be able to be purified.

 

It is according to Sahasrāvarta Nāma: anyone who recited this mantra, all his bad karma shall be removed. If he recites 7 times, all his 5 Offences (五逆罪) shall be purified. If he recites 10 times, then whatever sins he has shall be purified. If he recites further 100,000 times then he shall be able to see Sahasravarta face to face.

 

When one begins to perform a ritual for 7 days, he can only consume milk, ghee, cheese, plain biscuits and Japonica rice (粳米飯). He should not consume salt, catsup, source and vegetables. He should fast during the last day of his ritual. He should keep his stomach empty on the 15th night and start reciting mantra in front of the Buddha statue for an uncountable number of times until the statue shakes, sings and say: “Sadhu!” If these happened, the statue shall also emitting bright light and it shall put pearls and gems onto the practitioner’s head. The above signs will show that the person is successful in his practice. After he met with Avalokitesvara, then all his virtuous requests shall be granted. He may also see Avalokitesvara in various forms in his dreams, then all his virtuous matters shall be accomplished, all his bad karma shall be gone. If he teaches the mantra to others, they too shall have their sins purified.

 

If he wishes to move from east to west or vice versa; he should recite mantra 7 times to empower his hands and then rub his face. Then, wherever he goes shall not be met with unfortunate incidents. If he can keep to precepts and constantly recite this mantra without letting go, then he shall attain the 1st ground (第一地). A lady after recitation of this mantra shall turn into man permanently.

 

First one should construct a mandala and give offerings. After that he can start to recite mantras. The mandala should be square with each side measuring 16 elbow lengths. It has 4 layers as standard. The external of mandala should be white color and inside it should be painted 4 colors. Each layer is separated by a wall hence making 8 layers. All together there are 5 colors of 5 directions with 4 doors opening at 4 sides: east, west, south and north of equal size. The center layer need not have a door. One must also prepare 4 pieces big terracotta urns filled with water and tugged with pine and tree branches into the water urns. He should also need to offer plain biscuits, Japonica rice, milk, cheese, ghee, honey, incense, fruits etc. as offering. He should also light 16 oil lamps. One should plug 16 pieces of unused new arrows outside of the four doors. All of the arrows should be decorated with 5 color strings. Then he should get Katara woods (meaning Rosewood) 4 pieces: 2 pieces measuring 5 fingers length and 2 pieces measuring 6 finger lengths. These wooden spikes are used to be nailed down onto the 4 corners of the mandala. Seasonal and non-seasonal flowers should be spread onto the mandala.

 

Also, one should collect 1080 pieces of Phoga wood (頗伽木) measuring 1 foot each. After that use a terracotta bowl or a copper bowl to mix ghee with milk and then paint the mixture onto the Phoga woods. After on mantra recitation, one piece of Phoga wood is thrown into the fire. When there are no Katara woods to be found then use red date wood (赤棗木). First one must draw the image of a white Avalokitesvara of any size. It is according to the previous dharma: as such all of the previous karma shall be purified by one time mantra recitations. And that this person shall congregate the good root of one thousand Buddha. He shall be able to mask thousand koti of birth and rebirth. After he has exhausted this life, he shall be able to meet with the holy king Sahasravarta. If he keeps the 10 virtues (十善), and if he wishes to be born in the land of tathagatahs, then he should recite mantra 3 times a day; each time 32 times. After 21 days, his wish shall be granted and that he shall be able to see the golden Buddha image and the image of bodhisattvas in his dreams (this is the foretaste that this person shall be reborn in pure land).

 

In another translation:

 

Take some dhupa (突婆香) together with seedling 5 pounds and Japanese Paper Mulberry (楮木) a foot length for 1000 pieces. The woods should be empowered with ghee and recited with mantra 1000 times. Before present them to the fire, one should paint the ghee onto the wood and incense. After one mantra recitation, then collect cow dung during the 5th and 6th months and wind dry the dung. Use dhupa perfume to mix with mud to construct the mandala measuring 2 elbow lengths in diameter. One should offer various flowers. However, when there are no flowers during winter, then one can carve flowers in place of real flowers. He should burn Mastic Leaves (然薰陸香). The magician should be seated facing east; he should recite the mantra 1,000 times while seated. Only then his magic will work. Before starting the mantra recitation, empower water for 21 times or 7 times and then drink it. This mantra water can purify the mandala, room and shrine. One may wash, recite onto the willow branch and strike on a patient to cure illnesses etc. Every time one should recite 21 times. If one can recite mantra 21 times three times a day throughout his life, then all his karma shall be purified. Its power is unbelievable and can be used for all purposes.

The Buddha’s Medical Parable Sutra (佛说医喻经)


As I heard, at one time the Blessed One was at Śrāvastī together with bhiksu (苾刍) crowds. At that time, the Blessed One told the bhiksus and said: “You should know, as if a good doctor in this world who understands sickness and medicine. There are 4 types: if anyone fulfilled such conditions then he shall be the king of famous doctors. What are the 4 conditions?

 

The first is he must understand what kind of sickness uses what kinds of medicine.

 

The second is that as the sickness is incubating, he knows what types of medicines to use.

 

The third is that when the sicknesses are apparent, then he knows what types of medicines to be used to expel the sicknesses.

 

The fourth is that when the sickness is cured, then he knows how to remove the roots of the sickness so that there shall be no reoccurrences.

 

Those are the four conditions.

 

If asked what is meant by due to understand what sickness use what medicine?

 

Say that first distinguish and understand the symptoms of the sickness and then use medicines accordingly; then the sickness should be able to be cured and return peace and happiness.

 

If ask what is meant by understanding the sickness is in incubation and use medicine accordingly?

 

Say that by understanding the sickness: if it is from the wind (), or form jaundice (), or from phlegm (), or from heart (), or from the bone joints (骨节), or it is from solid pilling (积实). As such, when he understands from where the sickness came from and use medicine accordingly, then the pains shall be relieved and replaced by peace and happiness.

 

If ask what is meant by when the sicknesses are apparent then cure them so that they are expelled (令病出)?

 

Say that one should understand if the sickness should be expelled from the eyes, or from the inside of nasal orifices (鼻中) that should be treated separately to remove the sickness. Or use smoke to fumigate, or use water to pour to expel it. Or from nostrils (鼻窍) then use air to blow it out, or to vomit or effusion (泻出), or it is entire body then the sickness should be expelled by sweating (攻汗). Until that the body is divided into upper and lower and the sicknesses are expelled right after treatment methods. By understanding the locations of where sickness can come out from body and coupled with a prowess in using medications, the patients shall be relieved and happy.

If ask what is meant by removing the roots of the sickness so that there shall be no reoccurrences?

 

Say that by understanding the roots of sicknesses such as the symptoms, only then one can remove them. So one should be diligent, brave and present himself to work in order that the sickness will not return ever ensuring peace and happiness to the patients.

 

As such and the rest, the 4 types of known sickness and understand medicine.

 

The tathagatah-samyak-sambuddha presents himself in this world and preach about 4 types of unsurpassed dharma medicine. So, what is meant by the 4?

 

Say that: doctrine of suffering (苦圣谛), doctrine of accumulation (集圣谛), doctrine of extinction (灭圣谛) and doctrine of path (道圣谛). As such the 4 Noble Truths (四谛). As the Buddha really knows, and preached to all sentient beings and hence enabling the breaking and severance of method arising (断除生法). Since the basis of suffering is the method arising, once method arising is broken, then the old, sick, dead worries and sorrows and other sufferings shall be exterminated forever. The tathagatah-samyak-sambuddha due to the benefits of all, preach the above unsurpassed dharma medicine which would enable all sentient beings to leave all sufferings. Bhiksus, such as the Chakravartin complete with 4 division troops (elephant, horse, chariot and infantry) so he is at will and free. The tathagatah-samyak-sambuddha is as such.”

 

After the Buddha said this sutra, all bhiksus are happy to believe and accept.
